Curriculum
At Newlands School we have 3 pathways for our learners. For every pathway, we set short term targets that link directly with the child’s needs as outlined in the 4 key areas of their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which are; Cognition and learning, Communication and interaction, Social, emotional and mental health as well as Physical, sensory and medical needs.
Our ambitious curriculum uses well defined schemes of work, with effective adaptations made to the delivery of the curriculum to ensure that it is accessible to pupils in each of our pathways. The curriculum is continuously refined to ensure that it is relevant and meets the changing needs of our pupils. The schemes of work ensure that learning activities focus on the knowledge that is key to our pupils learning needs.
At Newlands, we have identified the core knowledge our pupils need in order to be fully prepared for their next stages of education. Our Phonics programme is embedded through a whole school approach for daily phonics sessions.

Curriculum Complaints
In accordance with the 1988 Education Act (Section 23) complaints about the curriculum and related matters may be made in the first instance to the Headteacher.
