The Great Outdoors
Welcome to the Woods! Make Wednesday afternoon your chance to get outside in all weathers and explore the world around us. You'll be building dens, creating woodland art and observing the changing seasons and landscapes as we explore the great outdoors on our doorstop. If you are a keen eco-activist wanting to make an environmental difference, or you just prefer to be out of the classroom away from walls and ceilings, you are all very much welcome to join us as we explore the Great Outdoors!
December 2024
In the ‘Great Outdoor Explorers’ Enrichment group we get out into the woods to learn about different parts of a forest; the sky, the insects that live there, mud, trees, leaves and moss. We have looked upwards towards the canopy and observed as it has changed as the leaves have fallen from the trees. We have lifted logs from the floor to hunt for minibeasts that live in the forest floor. This week we considered how the leaves mush down to make new mud, and how litter that has been dropped in the woods is not supposed to be there so we worked together to pick litter to make the woods a better place for wildlife. We will continue to explore trees and moss over the coming weeks. In the sessions we have been learning to follow instructions from less-familiar adults and all of the Great Outdoor Explorers have been doing brilliantly at this and are wonderful ambassadors for Newlands School whilst off-site - we are very proud of you all.
