Curriculum - EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage makes a crucial contribution to children’s early development and learning. We provide pupils with rich learning experiences which are relevant to their individual needs.
The three Prime Areas of Learning are
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language and
- Physical Development
The four Specific Areas of Learning are
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts and Design and
- Understanding the World.
The class team plans for multi-sensory play activities to support and engage pupils throughout the day.
Assessment of children's development and learning needs continues throughout the school year. On entry, the class teacher carries out a baseline assessment for every pupil. This helps us to establish the strengths and needs of each child in terms of their development and informs how we plan for their future learning and progress. We provide activities aimed at developing individual skills and building positive social relationships.
We always encourage pupils to make choices and to make their needs known, either verbally or non-verbally, within a Total Communication Framework. We are keen to discuss with parents and families the ways in which we can help children to make even more progress.
