Friendship Week
November 2025
Last week, we celebrated Friendship Week together with Hollin Primary School, and it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Classes from both schools joined up and took part in a range of activities, spending time together in both school buildings. Pupils enjoyed shared lessons, team challenges, and creative tasks that helped them get to know new friends and work with different groups.
The week gave children the chance to build confidence, practise cooperation, and learn the true value of kindness. Staff from both schools were proud to see how well the pupils mixed, supported each other, and showed respect throughout every session. It was a positive and memorable week, and we look forward to continuing our inclusion links with Hollin Primary throughout the year.
Panathlon Tenpin Bowling Competition
November 2025
This week, some of our pupils took part in two exciting bowling competitions — KS1 on Tuesday and KS2 on Friday. Both groups represented our school with fantastic behaviour, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
We are especially proud of our KS1 pupils, who won their competition! Each child received a gold medal and a certificate, and the team was also awarded a trophy that will be proudly displayed in our school trophy cabinet.
One City Football Tournament
November 2025
On Wednesday, our Newlands football team took part in the One City football tournament at the Etihad Stadium. The players showed excellent teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship from the moment they arrived. They stayed focused in every game, supported each other, and showed great respect to all teams taking part. Their hard work and positive attitude helped them perform at their very best.
They represented our school with real confidence and enthusiasm, winning every one of their matches. The whole team left the stadium feeling proud of what they had achieved, and we are all delighted with the way they showed what Newlands pupils can do.
Remembrance Day
November 2025
Silver Birch class proudly represented Newlands School at the Rochdale Remembrance service on Tuesday. The children showed great respect throughout the event and listened carefully as the community came together to remember those who served. Their behaviour and kindness were a credit to the school.
In the lead-up to the day, pupils from all year groups created bright and thoughtful poppy artwork. These poppy pictures were then shared with the wider community as part of a display in Rochdale town centre, helping everyone reflect on the importance of remembrance.
Halloween Disco
October 2025
What a fang-tastic evening we had at our Halloween Disco on Tuesday! Everyone came in brilliant costumes – we saw witches, skeletons, and even a few cheeky monsters!
There was lots of dancing, laughing, and some super cool moves on the dance floor.
It was lovely to see so many parents and carers joining in the fun — dancing, cheering, and helping make the evening even more special!
A huge thank you to all the staff and helpers who worked so hard to make the night such a success, and to all our amazing pupils for bringing their best smiles and spooky spirit!
Maths Stay and Play - KS2
October 2025
The Maths Stay and Play took place on Thursday 2nd October when we invited all parents and carers of Key Stage 2 children to join us in school with their children to explore a range of Maths activities.
The activities cover a range of Maths topics across the Pathway 2 and Pathway 3 curriculum. We have a range of sensory activities to encourage children to engage in maths, covering topics such as 2D and 3D shapes, pattern and sequencing and number and place value. A wide range of resources were available for everyone to try.
We had fantastic support from the parents and carers and everyone enjoyed exploring the activities and talking to the staff about what Maths looks like for their children in school.
Thanks to everyone who took part to make it a great success!
One City Football Tournament
September 2025
In September, a group of pupils from across Pathway 3 proudly represented Newlands at Round 1 of the One City football tournament, held at Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad Campus. It was wonderful to see them putting into action the skills they’ve been developing in our City in the Community PE lessons — and even showcasing some brilliant moves learned at football clubs outside of school — to win several exciting matches throughout the day. We were especially proud of their resilience when other teams scored and the incredible stamina they showed playing match after match. Their teamwork, determination and enthusiasm shone through, making the whole school proud. A huge well done to our players — what a brilliant achievement and a fantastic start to the tournament year!
