About Us

Newlands School is a generic Primary Special School, catering for 120 children aged 3-11.
Newlands opened in September 2007, following the re-organisation of Special Schools in Rochdale.
We are co-located with Hollin Primary School; Hollin Primary is a mainstream Primary school,  and together we form the Hollin Learning Community. Being co-located with a mainstream primary school allows us to have ongoing inclusion links between the 2 schools for those pupils for whom this is appropriate.

We focus on giving children the opportunity to learn as individuals, breaking down any barriers to their learning and celebrating success at every opportunity. Parents and families also play a positive role in partnership with our school to ensure that each child gets the best education possible. We believe that children learn best when home and school work together to promote learning, confidence and independence.

Newlands provision is flexible, with an emphasis on meeting the changing needs of individual children. A range of interventions are in place to achieve this, supported by trained and committed staff. Current school development priorities are detailed in the School Improvement Plan.

Why Choose Newlands?

At Newlands we have a dedicated staff team with many years of experience. Everyone is fully committed to meeting the needs of your child, employing specialist teaching and learning strategies to make this possible.

We draw on this staff experience and knowledge to continually develop our curriculum to motivate your child, offering a wide range of educational, differentiated opportunities.

Together we have established a friendly and welcoming climate in school, which is commented on by our many visitors.

We offer your child a safe, secure and caring environment where individual views and needs are recognised and respected.

We have high expectations in terms of attendance and behaviour and promote positive attitudes towards learning.

All members of our school community have equal access to learning opportunities and experiences and enjoy growing and learning together.

We have a high staff to pupil ratio to enable this to happen.
