We have made a fantastic start to our first half term, jumping straight into our exciting new literacy topic: Traditional Tales, Ordering and Sequencing! We have been exploring familiar stories in fun, sensory and hands-on ways, helping us to develop our communication, understanding and early literacy skills.

Our first traditional tale has been the much-loved The Gingerbread Man. We have had lots of fun getting to know the characters and events within the story through our wonderful story sack and puppets. The children have enjoyed handling the puppets, exploring the different characters and joining in with repeated phrases from the story. Our puppets have also helped us to think about what happened first, next and last, as we practised ordering and sequencing the events.

We have also been exploring the story through our senses. We had the opportunity to smell and taste ginger, helping us to make connections between the story and the real world. We discovered that ginger has quite a strong and unusual taste – and, judging by some of the children's reactions, it wasn't everyone's favourite!
