Silver Birch have made a great start to our first half term in English. We have been doing our phonics sessions, trying hard with our sounds, blending and also writing the speed sounds and the red and green words too. 

Our stories this half term are The Gruffalo and The Friendly Postman. We have made a start on The Gruffalo.  We have had lots of fun getting to know the characters and events within the story watching the story on screen, listening to an adult read the story and looking at the book independently. The children have enjoyed handling The Gruffalo, the snake and the mouse from the story.  We also went outside and looked for leaves, twigs, branches and the things we might find in the woods. The story is set in the woods.  We discussed the different characters and chose the one which was our favourite looking at images. We have enjoyed joining in with repeated phrases from the story trying to use a big voice for the Gruffalo. We have all decided what our favourite character is and tried to explain why.  We have also looked at what animals were in the story at the beginning, middle and end putting them in order using the book to help us.

We are looking forward to acting out some of the scenes and role playing the different characters.

We will also be looking at our other book too over the next few weeks.
