Unicef Rights Respecting Schools

January 2025

“I have a right to relax and play"

Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Article 31

In Maple class, we actively promote and follow the rights of a child, article 31 which emphasises the right of every child to rest, relax, and engage in play activities. In our lessons, we incorporate arts and culture as essential tools for creative expression and personal development. Through various activities, such as music, dance and drama, we encourage children to explore their imaginations, work collaboratively, and enjoy the process of learning in a fun and supportive environment. By prioritising play, creativity, and cultural engagement, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and express themselves freely, fostering a healthy balance between education and well-being.

Science - Sources of Light

November 2024

This term in Maple Class, we are learning about different light sources. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, our children will discover how light comes from the sun, lamps, flashlights, and even glowing objects. By experimenting with shadows and reflections, they will gain a deeper understanding of how light works in their everyday environment, sparking curiosity and creativity while developing their critical thinking skills.

English

October 2024

Unlocking the world of reading starts with phonics! In Maple Class the children embark on an exciting journey to develop essential literacy skills. Phonics teaches them the relationship between letters and sounds. This foundational skill not only enhances their reading abilities but also boosts their vocabulary and comprehension. By engaging in fun and interactive phonics activities, the children will begin to recognise and form the Read Write Inc Set one sounds.
