Summer Trip

July 2024

On Friday 5th July Black Class went on a trip to Wythenshawe Park to take part in the Simply Cycling. The children all loved the different adapted bikes, having a go at riding them as well as being ridden around by the adults!

We then headed to the park where the children enjoyed all the different climbing equipment, swings and slides.

To finish off the day we had a picnic before heading back to school.

Science

June 2024

The children really enjoy our Science sessions and have done so especially with our animal topics. The children have learnt all about whether things are alive, dead or have never been alive, where different animals live and even about food chains. In order to learn about these things we have been out and about not only around school grounds but in our local community. The children have enjoyed recording data on charts and using magnifying glasses to look for animals. The children have also  been sorting animals into different categories and creating food chains.

Geography

April 2024

This half term in Geography we have been looking at maps and identifying    features within a map. We began by exploring the local woods using the map and some compasses as a guide. We then took our experience of looking at a map into the classroom and explored a range of fictional maps with different characters. The children were able to identify key features on the map and guide their characters towards these. The children have also had fun driving cars along a road map, exploring atlases and a globe.

Bucket Time

March 2024

Bucket time is something the children look forward to everyday in class. It is a programme that focuses on the children engaging as a whole class. As the children move through each of the 4 stages of Bucket Time it requires them to shift their focus onto something new.

Stage 1 - The Bucket - The children watch as the adult pulls out exciting and interesting things from the bucket. We have wind up toys, things that make noise, toys that dance anything goes at this stage.

Stage 2 - The Attention Builder - At this stage the children as now asked to watch the adult carry out an activity. Again this could be anything. Black Class like it when it's messy though!

Stage 3 - Taking Turns - Here the children are learning to take their turn with an activity. It has been so lovely to hear the children praising each other when they have done a good job and waiting for their turn.

Stage 4 - The independent Task - This half term Black Class have made it all the way to the final stage in bucket! Here the children must watch the adult complete the activity before taking it to the table and completing it themselves.

We have been so proud of the progress our children have made and how supportive they have been of each other. Below are some images of the children enjoying all the different stages of bucket time.

PE

January 2024

In PE this half term Black Class have been working on their gymnastics skills. The children have been working on how to move across different equipment safely. We have also been looking at moving in different ways both on a mat and on the equipment. The children have been practicing their jumps, rolls and shapes. They have been able to listen carefully to instructions, wait their turn and praise their friends for their good work. Well done Black Class!

Colour Topic

November 2024

The children have been really enjoying our new topic 'Colour' so far this half term.

In Science we have been looking at 'Light and Dark'. The children have enjoyed experiencing the light room in new ways as well as conducting simple experiments of their own in class, making predictions and recording their findings.

In English, we have been looking at fireworks! The children have created some lovely work such as a firework pictures and building their own rockets with their names on.

In Art, we are looking at mixing colours and the children have had great fun painting outside on HUGE sheets of paper.

We have many more fun things planned for this half term such as the story 'The Colour Monster', getting ready for our Christmas Show and continuing our independence skills in the cooking room.

Our first cooking session

September 2023

In Black Classes first cooking session we made a sandwich. We came into the cooking room, put on our aprons and washed our hands. The children were able to follow the instructions to make their sandwich and prepare their filling. The children had to chop cucumber, grate cheese and spread the butter. Once the children had made the sandwich they could eat it and said whether they liked or didn’t like their sandwich using symbols. We even cleaned and washed up after!
